                Valentine’s Day - Bruce Springsteen

Tuning: Standard

Bruce Springsteen
Valentine’s Day (1987)
(Springsteen)
From: "Tunnel of Love"

What is special about this song is the combination of open
chords (+ the soft keyboard layers) and the melodic bass line.
It is difficult to create that atmosphere alone on one guitar.
I worked out an arrangement that works well for me. Even if it may not
be exactly what is played on the recording, to me it is a fair
representation of how it sounds. Suggestions highly welcome!

If you play together with a bass, the general pattern through most of the
song is (Capo 2nd fret):

VERSE /INTRO
| D Dsus2 | % | Gmaj7 G6 | % |

MIDDLE 8
| Bm | % | F#m | % |
Gmaj7 G6 | % | A Asus4add9 | A(add9) |

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I’m alone, I play it like this:

Capo 2nd fret

The basic pattern (see below) basically runs through most of the song,
sometimes the bottom note changes too (see below).
Whatever your strumming pattern may be, try to include these changes.

       D Dsus2/F# D/A Dsus2/B /A
Of the skies and the rivers, the timberwolf in the pines

And that great jukebox out on Route 39
