If you hear the acoustic version you will hear this descending riff he plays.
While playing the Dm it sounds like he grabs the low F and open
Low E string at the end of each bar. He does this between verses as well.
There are a few different ways to get a good sound for this.

Verse:

D5 F5 D5
You can a look a hurricane right in the eye
D5 F5 D5
1200 people dead or left to die
D5 Bb5 D5
Follow the leaders, we're in an eye for an eye we'll all be blind
D5 Bb5 D5 A5
Death for murder and this I'm sure in this uncertain time

D5 F5
So come pull the sheet over my eyes
                              Bb5
So I can sleep tonight
D5 C5
Despite what I've seen today
D5 F5 Bb5
I find you guilty of a crime, of sleeping at a time
D5 C5
When you should have been wide awake

Verse:
D5 F5 D5
Down on the road the world is floating by
D5 F5 D5
The poor and undefended left behind
D5 Bb5
While you're somewhere trading lives for oil
D5 A5
As if the whole world were blind

D5 F5
So come pull the sheet over my eyes
                              Bb5
So I can sleep tonight
D5 C5
Despite what I've seen today
D5 F5 Bb5
I find you guilty of a crime, of sleeping at a time
D5 C5
When you should have been wide awake

Bridge:
Bb5 A5 D5 B5
I find you guilty of a crime of this I know

D5 F5
So come pull the sheet over my eyes
                              Bb5
So I can sleep tonight
D5 C5
Despite what I've seen today
D5 F5 Bb5
I find you guilty of a crime, of sleeping at a time
D5 C5
When you should have been wide awake
D5 C5 Bb5 C5 D5
Wide awake! Wide awake! Wide awake! Wide awake!
