Here's an underrated Don Henley song from "Inside Job". Like many of Don's
songs, this is open to various interpretations, but the most obvious is that
it deals with grieving for a friend's suicide. Great lyrics, good song. The
chord progression is a lot like Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", but the
two songs are otherwise worlds apart.

I'm not 100% sure of the ending chord on the bridge, but I can vouch for the
accuracy of the rest of the song.

Damn It, Rose

Written by Don Henley and Stan Lynch

Chords used: Em, G, Am7, C, D, Dsus2, Dm, Bb and Eb

The main verse riff is Em / G twice, then Em / Am7 / C / D
(the D alternates with Dsus2).

Listen to the record for the timing.

Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)
Maybe just a good night's sleep
Em (022000@1) GWould've (320003@1)changed your troubled mind
Em (022000@1) Am7 (x02010@1)
From that rather permanent decision
C (x32010@1) D/ (xx0232@1)Dsus2 (xx0230@1)So tragic - so unkind

Em (022000@1) GNow (320003@1)pain is what you've given
Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)And sleep is what you'll get
Em (022000@1) Am7So (x02010@1)far away from that sweet baby child
C (x32010@1) (don't play Dhere) (xx0232@1)Who hardly knew you yet...

Interlude: just strum the same pattern as for the verses
Em / G
Em / G

Em (022000@1) GNow (320003@1)he'll grow up to be a fighter
Em (022000@1) GFull (320003@1)of anger, full of shame
Em (022000@1) Am7Just (x02010@1)like all the other haunted children
C (x32010@1) D/ (xx0232@1)Dsus2 (xx0230@1)Who wonder why they came -

Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)And he'll be in and out of trouble
Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)
Until he stands or till he falls
Em (022000@1) Am7But (x02010@1)there will always be a shadow there
C (x32010@1) Em (022000@1) G (320003@1) Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)No matter how it goes...Damn it, Rose.

Bridge
Dm (xx0231@1) G (320003@1)Is this another cryptic message,
Dm (xx0231@1) G (320003@1)Or some kind of cosmic quiz?
Dm (xx0231@1) Bb (x1333x@1)
If there's a lesson to be learnt from this,
Eb (x43121@3) (Not sure, but I think it's directly back to Em)
I don't know what it is -

Interlude (same as the above)
Em / G
Em / G

Em (022000@1) GYou (320003@1)could've given us the finger
Em (022000@1) GMuch (320003@1)more constructively than that
Em (022000@1) Am7Now (x02010@1)I sit here with the MTV
C (x32010@1) D/ (xx0232@1)Dsus2And (xx0230@1)your bloated Burmese cat

Em (022000@1) GWe're (320003@1)being treated to the wisdom
Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)Of some puffed-up little fart
Em (022000@1) Am7 (x02010@1)
Doing exactly what I used to:
CPretensions (x32010@1)to anarchy and art -

Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)He speaks the language of a warrior
Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)He mounts his misinformed attack
Em (022000@1) Am7 (x02010@1)He wears the clothes of a dissenter
CBut (x32010@1)there's a logo on his back...

Em (022000@1) GAnd (320003@1)it's a hollow rebellion,
Em (022000@1) GLike (320003@1)rebellions mostly are
Em (022000@1) Am7 (x02010@1)
It's just another raging tempest
CIn (x32010@1)a jar...

Em (022000@1) GAnd (320003@1)the seasons keep on changing,
Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)And the wind blows hot and cold -
Em (022000@1) Am7Wish (x02010@1)that you were here with us to watch this tide
CAs (x32010@1)it ebbs and flows....
C (x32010@1) Em (022000@1) G (320003@1) Em (022000@1) G (320003@1)
Damn it, Rose.

Coda: play Em / G repeatedly and fade out.

There you have it! If anyone can figure out the missing chord, please let me
know!
