Intro: D5 , G5 , D5 , A5 , D5

   D5 G5 A5 D5
Oh where is your inflammatory writ
                        G5 A5 D5
Your text that would inside a light be lit

Our music deserving devotion unswerving

Cried do I deserve her with unflagging fervour
                        G5 A5 D5
Well no we do not if we cannot get over it
    G5 B5
But what?s it mean when suddenly we?re spent tell me true
  G5 B5
Ambition came and reared it?s head and went far from you
     G5
Even molluscs have weddings though solemn and leaden
        B5
But you dirge for the dead and take no jam on your bread
       D5 G5 A5 D5
Just a supper of salt and a waltz through your empty bed
    F5 A5
And all at once it came to me
      Bb5 F5
And I wrote in hunch til 4:30y
C5 G5 A5 D5
But that vestal light it burns out with the night
   G5 D5
In spite of all the time that we spent on it
   Bb5 F5
On one bedraggled ghost of a sonnet
      G5 D5
While outside the wild boars root
B5 A5
Without bending a bough underfoot
      C5 G5
Oh it breaks my heart I don?t know how they do it

So don?t ask me
    D5 G5 A5 D5
And as for my inflammatory writ
                     G5 A5 D5
I wrote it and I was not inflamed one bit
  G5
Advice from the master derailed that disaster
        B5
He said hand that pen over to me poetaster
      G5
While ?cross the great plains keening lovely and awful
    B5
You ulate the lost great American novels
   D5 G5 A5 D5
An unlawful lot left to stutter and freeze floodlit
                                      G5 A5 D5 A5 D5
But at least they didn?t run to their undying credit
