• Song:

    Sunday Morning Coming Down

  • Artist:

    Kris Kristofferson

  • Album:

    Very Best of

In spite of its five star rating the other version has some errors, so I have tried to fix them.

To emulate the Rhodes piano in the chorus try alternating the major triads with:

C* D* G*
e|-0--3--3
B|-3--3--1
G|-0--2--0
D|-2--0--0
A|-3--x--2
E|-x--x--3

Capo on the second fret.

Verse 1:
G (320003@1) Well I woke up Sunday morning
C (x32010@1) G (320003@1) with no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt

and the beer I had for breakfast
Em (022000@1) D (xx0232@1) wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert

Verse 2:
G (320003@1) Than I fumble through my closet for
           C (x32010@1) G (320003@1) G/F# (320002@1)name="chord_022000@1">Em
my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt
C (x32010@1) Am (x02210@1) and I shaved my face and combed my hair
C (x32010@1) D (xx0232@1) G (320003@1) and stumbled down the stairs to meet the day

Verse 3:
G (320003@1) I'd smoked my brain the night before
             C (x32010@1) G (320003@1) and cigarettes and songs that I've been pickin'
Em (022000@1) but I lit my first and watched a small kid
D (xx0232@1) cussin' at a can that he was kicking

Verse 4:
G (320003@1) Then I crossed the empty street and caught
C (x32010@1) G (320003@1) the sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken
C (x32010@1) Am (x02210@1) and it took me back to somethin' that
            C (x32010@1) D (xx0232@1) G (320003@1) I'd lost somehow somewhere along the way

Chorus:
/ C (x32010@1) On the Sunday mornin' sidewalks
G (320003@1) wishing Lord that I was stoned
D (xx0232@1) 'cause there is something in a Sunday
G (320003@1) that makes a body feel alone

C (x32010@1) And there's nothin' short of dyin'
G (320003@1) half as lonesome as the sound
D (xx0232@1) on the sleepin' city sidewalks
G (320003@1) Sunday mornin' comin' down

Verse 5:
               G (320003@1) In the park I saw adaddy (x02210@1)with
          C (x32010@1) G (320003@1) a laughing little girl who he was swingin'

and I stopped beside a sunday school
Em (022000@1) D (xx0232@1) and listened to the song that they were singin'

Verse 6:
G (320003@1) Then I headed back for home and
                  C (x32010@1) G (320003@1) G/F# (320002@1)name="chord_022000@1">Em
somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'
C (x32010@1) Am (x02210@1) and it echoed thru the canyon like
            C (x32010@1) D (xx0232@1) G (320003@1) the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

Chorus:
/ C (x32010@1) On the Sunday mornin' sidewalks

Repeat the chords for the chorus while singing "doo doo doo..." and fade out.
