DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO - Meg Baird
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cover of a song originally written by Jimmy Webb for The Four Tops

Tuning: Standard (capo 5th fret to match version on "Dear Companion" album)

Chords:

C: x32010 Dm: xx0231
G: 320003 and 320033 Em: 022000
Fmaj7: 133210 Am: x02210
D9/F#: 2x0210

Notes:

- The song is in 4/4 time, and plays at 75 bpm to match the album version. Each "-"
below represents one semi-quaver length (ie a 1/4 beat, or 1/16th of a bar).
- I pick this using my thumb for the alternating bass notes in each bar, and my index
and middle for the other strings.
- Where I've written "h2", "h3" etc below this means you pluck the string open then
hammer on the fret on the next semi-quaver. The one exception to this is in the first hammer
on of the 7th bar of the 1st chorus - here the hammer on is quicker, so that the whole
"h2" fits inside only one semi-quaver (ie it fits entirely before the 4th string "0"
following it, not overlapping with it as it appears in the tab below - hope that makes sense!).
- Each Verse is essentially just the Intro played twice over, but there are a few minor
variations in the picking each time the 1st, 2nd & 4th bars are played - below is the
way each bar is played in the Intro, but I haven't tabbed out each variation that
appears in the Verses. I'm sure Meg doesn't play it exactly the same each time anyway.

Lyrics:

Man I can understand how it might be
Kinda hard for you to love a girl like me
I don't blame you much for wanting to be free
I just wanted you to know
That I loved you better that your own kin did
From the very start it's my own fault
What happens to my heart
I've always known you'd go and do

Do what you gotta do
My wild sweet love
Though I may never kiss those sweet lips again
Pay them no mind
Find that dappled dream of yours
And come on back and see me when you can

Though it makes you feel sad
And makes you feel so bad
They say you don't treat me like you should
They got ways to make you feel no good
They got no way to know
I had my eyes wide open from the very start
You never never never lied to me
The part of you that they'll never see
Is the part you've shown
Go on and do

(repeat chorus)
