Artist: Nickelback
Album: The Long Road
Label: Road Runner Records
Bassist: Mike Kroeger
Tuning: Drop D (D, A, D, G)

This song is meant to be played using a 5-string Bass. This is an adaptation for a 4 string bass.
So it won’t be exactly as the song is. See at the end for 5 string differences.
Please Note the lyrics are only there as a guide to help show where the song is at.
I am aware that they are incomplete in some areas.

Verse 1:
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
How the hell’d we wind up like this? Why weren’t we able?
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|2---------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|--------5-------|7--------00-0-5-|0-------5-------|7--------00-0-5-| D
I wish you don’t clench your fists, and unpack your suitcase.
|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------| A
|2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-|7-7-7-7-7-------| D
Nothings wrong, just as long as you know that someday I will.

Chorus:
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|5-5-5-5-0-0-0-0-|7-7-7-7-722-2-0-|5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-|9-9-9-9-7-7-7-7-| D
Someday, somehow, I’m gonna make it alright, but not right now. I know your wandering away.
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|5-5-5-5-0-0-0-0-|7-7-7-7-722-2-0-|5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-|9---------------| D
Someday, somehow, I’m gonna make it alright, but not right now. I know your wandering away.

Verse 2:
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
Well I hoped that since we’re here anyway, we could end up saying.
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|2---------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|--------5-------|7--------00-0-5-|0-------5-------|7--------00-0-5-| D
Now the story’s played out like this, just like, a paperback novel.
|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------| D

|2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-|7-7-7-7-7-------| D
Nothings wrong, just as long as you know that someday I will.

Someday, somehow, I’m gonna make it alright, but not right now. I know your wandering away.

I know your wandering away. I know your wandering away.

The difference between my 4-string version and the actual way Mike plays the song using a 5 string,
is that all B notes (9th fret notes) on the bottom sting (The dropped to D string) is played by Mike
on the low B string of a 5-string Bass.

For example, he would play this,
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|5-5-5-5-0-0-0-0-|7-7-7-7-722-2-0-|5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-|9-9-9-9-7-7-7-7-| D

Like this, with a 5-string Bass:
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|5-5-5-5-0-0-0-0-|7-7-7-7-722-2-0-|5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-|--------7-7-7-7-| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|0-0-0-0---------| B

Or like this in standard tuning, with a 5-string Bass:
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| G
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| D
|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------| A
|3-3-3-3---------|5-5-5-5-500-0---|3-3-3-3-5-5-5-5-|--------5-5-5-5-| E
|--------3-3-3-3-|--------------3-|----------------|0-0-0-0---------| B

That low B note is the only note that can’t be reached with a Drop D 4-string Bass.
So, just substitute it with the next lowest B, the 9th fret on the Drop D string.
There you go. This song is AWESOME and I hope you enjoy!
