Intro: Dm

Dm C Dm
First I will describe the scene to you
C
Do you have it right?
Dm C
In 1944 the riegal she went down
Dm C
She went down with 4,000 prisoners
Dm
Asleep on board

Dm C
Well now do you,
C Dm
I want to know if you
Dm
Have it right, is it like
Dm
The borders of a dream
Am
Have taken you inside?

Dm C
The riegel was a mighty ship
Dm Am G
4,000 prisoners strong

C Am
The captain he was gallant
Dm G
Or perhaps he was a prisoner, too
Am G
Who's to know for sure who's who?

C Am
One night it was very late
C Am
The riegel tore its side
C Am
4,000 prisoners and the captain
Dm G
They were trapped inside

Am
Has there been any news?
C
I feel so out of place
Am C
The captain's always busy
Am C
Being in a state of grace
Dm
But what I want to know is:

Am
Are you listening out there?

C Am
The crew they were a sorry lot
C Am
Blinded by their blood
C Am
The captain he whispered orders
              C Am
You could not hear him above the flood
C Am
Then somebody said, "the ocean's here,"
C Am
But someone said "no, there's more"
C Am
And the last thing I remember
Dm G
Is a broken hand clinging to the captain's door

Am
Has there been any news?
C
I feel so out of place
Am C
The captain's always busy
Am C
Being in a state of grace
Dm
But what i want to know is

Anybody listening?
Am Dm
Are you listening out there?
Am Dm
Are you listening out there?

Such a beautiful and poignant song by tom rapp, performed by his band pearls before swine. His wife at the time, elizabeth, provides backup vocals. 10/10.
