he plays during the chorus.  It's to be played when I note "riff".
When I say "stop-hit" I mean just that - play a staccato strike of the chord then stop.  
Take note that "funky" hammer-on's are only played during the first half of each of 
the verses.  Listen to the recording for clarification on timing.
