they might have recorded it tuned a half step down-Eb (it would make most sense) 
which would mean that they'd play on the 7th fret instead of the 6th and also 
could play the open low E string

Standard Tuning (E) 6th fret
Half step down (Eb) 7th Fret
and so on...
