    Songs From An American ...

It seems like nobody can get the chords right for this song. Everyone always does a
of crap that's totally out of key, so I just listened to the song and played along, and I'm
90% sure these are the correct chords. At least they sound good enough to play along.
are just the chords played though; I didn't include any tabs for the background
or anything else. I might do that later though.

Chords used: Bb F Gm Eb

* = Use a bass note of A (not A#) if you want it to sound more like the song.

Verse

Bb F* Gm
Five miles outside of Vegas when we broke down
                          F Bb
Threw my keys inside the window and we never looked back
                   F* Gm
Got all drunk and sloppy on a greyhound bus
                         F Bb
We passed out, all them losers they were laughing at us
I will never let them break your heart
No I will never let them break me
Bb F* Gm
We got lost in phoenix, seemed like such a long time
                         F Bb
Seven months of livin' swimming on those thin white lines
                          F* Gm
Did some time for selling acid to the wrong guy
                            F Eb
Life just keeps on getting smaller and we never ask why

Chorus

                        F Bb
Why there is no perfect place, yes I know this is true
                         Gm
I'm just learning how to smile
                  Eb
Thats not easy to do
                         F
I know there will come a day
                               Bb
When we can leave and just go runnin' away

Verse

Bb F* Gm
We was broke outside of Philly when the storms came
                      F Bb
I was working in New Jersey, hitchin' rides in the rain
                      F* Gm
We was happy talkin' dirty at that phone sex place
                            F Eb
Life just keeps on getting weirder for us every day

Chorus

                            F Bb
You say there is no perfect place, I say I know this is true
                         Gm
I'm just learning how to smile
                  Eb
Thats not easy to do
                     F
We both live for the day
                     Bb
When we can run away

Oh baby we can leave and run away
Yes we can leave this place and run away
We can leave it all behind like we do every time
Yes we both live for the day
When we can leave and just go runnin' away

No I will never let it break your heart
No I will never let it break me

Verse

Bb F* Gm
Five miles outside of Vegas, five years down the line
                       F Bb
We got married in the desert and the sunshine
                       F*
I can't handle all the hell that happens every day
Gm
When you smile and touch my face
    F Eb
You make it all just go away

Chorus

                           F Bb
Yes I know there ain't no finish line, I know this never ends
                             Gm Eb
But I'm just learning how to fall, climb back up again
                         F Bb
I know there is nothing perfect, I know there is nothing new
                         F Eb
I'm just learning how to live together, me and you
                         F
You know I live for the day
                                    Bb
When you say baby lets just run away

Oh baby we can leave and run away
Yes we can leave this place and run away
Baby we can leave and run away
We can leave this place and run away
