After discovering The Royal Sons, I instantly fell in love with their music and that led
me to wanting to play it. After talking to their lead guitarist, Grant Jensen, he was
kind enough to show me how to play one of my favorite songs of theirs: Through and
Through. For this tablature, I will submit it in an unorthodox way because I'm lazy. I'm going
to list the strumming patterns of the song and assign a number to each of them, each
number will represent one of the songs several patterns which I will list next. Essentially
the following is a chord sheet but with numbers rather than chords. To be straight
forward, I will go through the song in the order of how it's song (including any repeated lines).
Throughout the song there is a lot of sliding, and you want to include the rough sound
of your finger sliding across the low E string just like in the recording.

Pattern 1:
e|-------------|
B|-------------|
G|-------11----|
D|-----------0-|
A|-------------|
E|---10--------|

This pattern is repeated the most throughout the song. Grant plays it with his middle
finger on the 10th fret of the low E string and his third finger on the 11th fret of the G
string. This basic finger structure is consistent throughout the entire song; your
middle and third finger should never really leave the fretboard. He also mutes the A-string
just in case it is strummed, but this is not completely necessary. It is easiest to
pluck the low E string with your thumb, then pluck the G string with your middle finger, and
lastly pluck the open D string with your index finger.

Pattern 2:
e|-------------|
B|-------------|
G|-------7-----|
D|-----------0-|
A|-------------|
E|---7---------|

Pattern 3:
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|---2--------|
D|------------|
A|------------|
E|---2--------|

Pattern 4:
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|---4--------|
D|------------|
A|------------|
E|---3--------|

Pattern 5:
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|---6--------|
D|------------|
A|------------|
E|---5--------|

Pattern 6:
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|---7--------|
D|------------|
A|------------|
E|---7--------|

Pattern 7 (walk-around):
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|------9-----|
D|----------0-|
A|------------|
E|---9--------|

Pattern 8 (walk-around):
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|------12----|
D|----------0-|
A|------------|
E|---12-------|

Pattern 9 (similar to pattern 4):
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|-------4----|
D|----------0-|
A|------------|
E|----3-------|

Pattern 10 (similar to pattern 5):
e|------------|
B|------------|
G|-------6----|
D|----------0-|
A|------------|
E|----5-------|

These are all the patterns for the song. You may want to practice with them a bit before
starting to play them in the actual song just to get comfortable, it's up to you.

Took a step down this road,
                                 s7 s1
Little did I ever know I?d fall in love
1
Time has past, we both grow

Life?s been hard but we found hope
    s7 s1
And that?s enough

3 4 5 6 s1
Oh-oh, you are beautiful, through and through
3 4 5 6 s1

Promised me and then you swore we won?t give up

I carry you, you carry me
                                              s7 s1
If I make up then endlessly we fall in love

People looking at us asking: how come? How come?
                 7 8 9 10 2 10 s1
Ooooooo-ooh-ooooh, together forever.

3 4 5 6 s1
Oh-oh, you are beautiful, through and through
3 4 5 6 s1
Oh-oh, you should know-oh, that I love you

The song should end with the plucking of the low E string.

And that's it! Hopefully this format all made sense; I thought it did (and it saved me
time). If you need any help, e-mail me at pjhayton@yahoo.com or Facebook me at

Here is the YouTube link to the music video of the song (although at some parts he plays
it differently than the recording) which will help a lot in learning it:
