The Horrors - Sea Within A Sea
Tabbed by: poipoi (Pieter Candry)

This is the tab I made to the new single Sea Within A Sea by The Horrors
from their new upcoming cd ‘Primary Colours’. I did the best I could, I
figured it out all by myself, so if you have corrections/improvements that
could be made, just tell me…

Intro
Bass (use reverb)
0.00 -
G|-------------------------------|
D|-----4~-------4~------4~-------|
A|-------------------------------| just continue as needed
E|-2-2~---2-2-2~--2-2-2~---------|

Guitar (tremolo effect + lots of reverb + slight OD)
0.15 – 1.06
e|-----------------------------------------------------------|
B|-----------------------------------------------------------|
G|--11-11-11------------11-11--------------------------------|
D|----------------------------x16----------------------------|
A|--9--9--9-------------9--9---------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|

Faris starts to sing
1.06 – 1.58
e|---------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------|
G|--11-11--------------------------------------|
D|-----------continue to play this-------------|
A|--9--9---------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------|

Every 4th time you play the above riff, use a slide (or any other round
metal/glass object ie. tremolo bar, battery,…)

Riff
1.58 – 2.13
e|------------------------------------------------------------|
B|------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---0-0-4-6--------------------------------------------------|
D|------------4tr~---4-4-5-4-------------2-------2------------|
A|---------------------------4tr~--4-4-5---2tr~----2tr~-------|
E|------------------------------------------------------------|
After the riff, slide down again with whatever round metal object you’ve got

2.14 – 2.53
Guitar 1 (tremolo + reverb+…)
e|-----------------------------------------------------------|
B|-----------------------------------------------------------|
G|--11-11----------------------------------------------------|
D|---------same rhythm as before-----------------------------|
A|--9--9-----------------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|

Guitar 2 (clean with reverb)
e|-----------------------------------------------------------|
B|-----------------------------------------------------------|
G|--11------12-----------------------------------------------|
D|-----x16-----x16-------------------------------------------|
A|--9-------10-----------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|

Guitar 3
As usual, every 4th time guitar 1 plays, or if guitar 2 has played the
whole thing (so every 4 measures) slides down

Play this 3 times

2.53 – 3.23
Guitar 2 continues to play here (very hard to hear), while Josh plays stuff
that’s impossible to tab, I guess he hits notes behind his bridge (Jaguar…)
and other random stuff, with an enormous amount of reverb and some OD and
also delay
One thing I have deciphered is this:
e|--14-------------------------------------------------------|
B|-----14----------------------------------------------------|
G|--------14-16----------------------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|
It returns a couple of times, just listen to the song to hear when.

3.23 – 3.39
Bass
G|-----------------------------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------------------|
E|-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2—x11 or so-------------------------|

Synth comes in
Note: this is playable on guitar, if you use OD or turn your gain down on
your dist, use a tremolo pedal and reverb
3.40 – 4.26
e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|-6-----6-----6--------------------------------------------|
D|---8-----8-----8—x30 approx.------------------------------|
A|-----9-----9----------------------------------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

Bass
G|----------------------------------------------------------|
D|----------------------------------------------------------|
A|----------------------------------------------------------|
E|-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2—x?---------------------------------------|

Then changes to something along these lines
G|-----------------------------------------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------------------------------|
E|-2----2/11----11\4----4----2----2/6----6\4----4/11----11\9----9--|

Outro
4.26 – 7.59 (end)
Synth
e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|-6-----6-----6----15-------15-------15--------------------|
D|---8-----8-----8—----16-------16-------16-----------------|
A|-----9-----9------------18-------18-----------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|-8-------8-------8-----8-------8-------8------------------|
D|---10------10------10----10------10------10---------------|
A|------11------11------------11------11--------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|-6-----6-----6----10-------10-------10--------------------|
D|---8-----8-----8—----11-------11-------11-----------------|
A|-----9-----9------------13-------13-----------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|-8-------8-------8------15-------15-------15--------------|
D|---10------10------10------16-------16-------16-----------|
A|------11------11--------------18-------18-----------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|-13-------13-------13----13-------13-------13-------------|
D|----15-------15-------15----15-------15-------15----------|
A|-------16-------16-------------16-------16----------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

Repeat the entire outro part until the end of the song, after a while, the
tremolo is turned off, and the OD eventually too, so it's just the reverb.
And then a little later again, you strum the chords, with slight delay and
volume swells (either a volume pedal, or the volume knob on your guitar, or
if it's too much of a hassle, just strum them with the delay)

LIVE:
When I've seen them live, Josh just plays the power chords:
e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|----------------------------------------------------------|
D|-4-----13----6-----4----8----6----13----11----------------|
A|-4-x8--13-x8-6-x16-4-x8-8-x8-6-x8-13-x8-11-x16------------|
E|-2-----11----4-----2----6----4----11----9-----------------|

This is the tab to the incredible epic song Sea Within A Sea, hopefully
I’ve helped you

Key:
~: let ring
tr~: let ring and use tremolo bar/do a vibrato
\: slide down
/: slide up

Update 16/08/2009: I made 2 additions: one in the 2.53-3.23 bit and
one in the outro. I also made a correction in the outro
