   G C D Em Cmaj7
e|--------- e|--------- e|-2----2-- e|--------- e|---------
B|-0----0-- B|-1----1-- B|----3--3- B|-0----0-- B|-0----0--
G|----0--0- G|----0--0- G|---2----- G|----0--0- G|----0--0-
D|---0----- D|---2----- D|-0---0--- D|---2----- D|---2-----
A|--------- A|-3---3--- A|--------- A|--------- A|-3---3---
E|-3---3--- E|--------- E|--------- E|-0---0--- E|---------

I don't think these are the exact picking patterns, but they gets to job done I suppose.
Gavin also occasionally adds an 0h2 hammer-on on the A string for G chords and on
the D string for C chords.

Verse 1:

      G C G
Well, I woke up this morning with dead leaves inside my bed.
                 G D
You said "You're better off just where you are than to be stuck in my head.
              G C G
You've got to leave it all behind you and give yourself up to chance."
   Em D G
So I gave myself to chance.

Verse 2:

      G C G
And I packed a little suitcase, brushed my teeth and washed my hands.
          G D
I've been bluffing here for years and now I think it's time I showed my hand.
             G C Cmaj7
I'm going to move to New York City and set the sky on fire.
              Em D G
Oh, don't the night look so alive with it's desire

Chorus 1:

   C G
To cross the River Jordan?
       D G
But it just don't feel the same.
       C G
When I came home Friday morning
     Em D C G
With no one but myself to blame.
     Em D G

Verse 3:

    G C G
See I have trouble with numbers and paying the ones I owe.
      G D
And I put what I had left in the pocket of my coat.
       G C G
I went out to find a liquor store and make a home there in the snow,
       Em D G
Give myself a little shelter from the cold.

Chorus 2:

           C G
See, I was bound here by my choices.
      D G
Oh my god how I felt so ashamed.
        C G
Still I hoped that you might join us
              Em D G
And take this little light of ours out on parade

Melodica Section (played twice):

Em D G C
Em D G G

Verse 4:

  G C G
I used to look at others and try to find a way to grow.
        G D
And now I just look around and I'm going to reap the seeds I've sown.
             G C Cmaj7
And I try to picture myself in Oslo but lord help me if I go.
          Em D G
I've been running around and I believe it's starting to show.

Chorus 3:

            C G
And so I'll cross the River Jordan
          D G
And if it just don't feel the same.
        C G
And I'm not home Friday morning
          Em D C G
I'll have no one but myself to blame.
