Old Hippie - The Bellamy Brothers

[G] He turned thirty-five last Sunday,
[C] In his hair he found some [G] gray
But he still ain't changed his lifestyle,
[C] He likes it better the old [D] way

So he [C] grows a little garden
in the back [G] yard by the fence
He's [C] consuming what he's growing
nowa [G] days in self defense
He get's [D] out there in the twilight zone
Some [C] times when it just don't make [G] no sense

[G] He gets off on country music,
[[ch]C [/ch]] cause disco left him [G] cold
He's got young friends into new wave,
[C] buts he's just too [D] friggin old

And he [[ch]C [/ch]] dreams at night of Woodstock
and the [[ch]G [/ch]] day John Lennon died
how the [[ch]C [/ch]] music made him happy,
and the [[ch]G [/ch]] silence made him [D] cry
Yea he [Bm] thinks of John sometimes
and he [[ch]C [/ch]] has to wonder [[ch]G [/ch]] why

He's an [C] old hippie
and he [G] don't know what to do
should [D] hang on to the old
should he [G] grab on to the new
he's an [C] old hippie
his new [G] life is just a bust
he ain't [D] trying to change nobody
he just [C] trying real [D] hard to [G] adjust

[G] He was sure back in the sixties
[C] that everyone was [G] hip
Then they sent him off to Vietnam
[C] on his senior [D] trip

And they [[ch]C [/ch]] force him to become a man
while [[ch]G [/ch]] he was still a boy
and in [[ch]C [/ch]] each wave of tragedy
he [[ch]G [/ch]] waited for the [D] joy
Now this [[ch]Bm [/ch]] world may change around him
[C] but he just can't change no [G] more

He's an [C] old hippie
and he [G] don't know what to do
should [D] hang on to the old
should he [G] grab on to the new
he's an [C] old hippie
his new [G] life is just a bust
he ain't [D] trying to change nobody
he just [C] trying real [D] hard to [G] adjust

[G] Well he stays away a lot now
[[ch]C [/ch]] from the parties and the [G] clubs
[[ch]C [/ch]] And he's thinking while he's [G] joggin' 'round
Sure is [[ch]C [/ch]] glad he quit the hard [[ch]D [/ch]] drugs
Cause [[ch]C [/ch]] him and his kind get more [[ch]G [/ch]] endangered everyday
[[ch]C [/ch]] And pretty soon the species
will just [[ch]G [/ch]] up and fade away
Like the [[ch]D [/ch]] smoke from that torpedo
just [[ch]C [/ch]] up and fade [[ch]G [/ch]] away

He's an [C] old hippie
and he [G] don't know what to do
should [D] hang on to the old
should he [G] grab on to the new
he's an [C] old hippie
his new [G] life is just a bust
he ain't [D] trying to change nobody
he just [C] trying real [D] hard to [G] adjust
