City Lights (Charlie Rich)

(G)A bright array of city lights, as (C)far as I can see,
Their (D) great white wave shines through the night,
on (C)lonely (D7)guys like (G)me,

The cabaret's and honky tonks,
the (C)flashing signs and lights,
A (D)broken heart could lose itself,
in the (C)glow of city (G)lights,

(D)Lights that say forgive her now,
in a (G)glass of sherry wine,
(D)Lights that offer other girls,
for (G)empty hearts like mine,

They paint a pretty picture,
of a (C)world that's gay and bright,
And it's (D)just a mask for loneliness,
Be(C)hind those city (G)lights,

The (D)world was dark, God made the stars,
to (G)brighten up the night,
But the (D)guy that put those stars above,
I don't be(G)lieve he made those lights,

It's just a place for me to cry,
when (C)things don't turn out right,
A (D)place to run away and hide,
be(C)hind those city (G)lights,

(D)Lights that say forget her love,
in A (G)different atmosphere,
(D)Lights that lure are nothing but,
A (G)masquerade for tears,

They paint a pretty picture,
of two (C)arms that hold you tight,
and I (D)just can't say I love you
to A (C)string of city (G)lights,
