• Song:

    Bright Smile

  • Artist:

    Josh Ritter

  • Album:

    Hello Starling - Limite...

Tabbed by: Will Redfearn

Tuning: Standard
CAPO ON 3rd- Tabs relative to capo.

MAIN GUITAR PATTERN: Might seem a bit hard to play at first, but I think
once you get the hang of playing the G on the E string in time, it starts
to flow quite nicely. I struggled for a few minutes to begin with. I
usually play with a pick, but for this song I think the pattern
complements finger picking slightly more, using the thumb to reach the
2 bottom strings.

play twice:
e|-------------------------------------------------------|
B|-------------1--0----------------0-h-1-----------------|
G|---------0-------------------0-------------------------|
D|-------------------------------------------------------|
A|----3--------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------3------------------------------|

e|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|------------1--0-------0------------------1--------------0-h-1------|
G|---------0-----------0-----------------2--------------0-------------|
D|------------------------------------3-------------------------------|
A|-----3--------------------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------3------------------|

This sequence repeats for all verses.

CHORUS:
C G F G
with bright smiles and dark eyes
C G F G
bright smile dark eyes
C G F
everywhere I went oh
G
I was always searching for you
C G F G
bright smile dark eyes

*The main melody can neearly be played on top of the chorus.. I think
there's a bit of a tweak to it at the start line with the F, although
I haven't noted it down because it's fairly hard to tab it exactly
right. Maybe try it by ear.. Either way I think it sounds good enough
  in chords.

BRIDGE:
Am G C
man is only half himself
F G
the other half is a bright thing
Am G C
he tumbles on by luck or grace
F G
for man is ever a blind thing
