@Mountain Goats "Source Decay" - written by john darnielle tabbed by Russ Sweetser ruxxell@comcast.net E5 -- A5 -- E5 --- A5 E5 Once a week I make the drive F#5 A5 two hours east to check the Austin post office box. E5 F#5 I take the detour through our old neighborhood, A5 B5 see all the Chevy Impalas in their front yards up on blocks, A5 B5 and I park in an alley and I read through the postcards E5 A5 that you continue to send: F#5 A5 where as indirectly as you can you ask what I remember. E5 B5 I like these torture devices from my old best friend. C#5 Well I'll tell you what I know F#5 like I swore I always would -- A5 B5 I don't think it's gonna do you any good: E5 A5 E5 A5 B5 A5 E5 I remember the train headed south out of Bangkok down toward the water. A5 E5 A5 E5 E5 I always get a late start, F#5 when the sun's going down A5 and the traffic's thinning out E5 and the glare is hard to take. I wish the E5 F#5 West Texas highway was a M?bius strip -- A5 B5 I could ride it out forever. When I feel my heart break, A5 B5 I almost swear I hear it happen, it's that clear and that hard. E5 A5 I come in off the highway and I park in my front yard. C#5 I fall out of the car F#5 like a hostage from a plane, A5 think of you a while and B5 start wishing it would rain. E5 A5 E5 A5 B5 A5 E5 I remember the train headed south out of Bangkok down toward the water. A5 E5 A5 E5 E5 I come into the house, F#5 put on a pot of coffee, A5 E5 walk the floors a little while. E5 F#5 I set the postcard on a table with all the others like it, A5 B5 start sorting through the pile. A5 I check the pictures and the postmarks B5 and the captions and the stamps E5 A5 for signs of any pattern at all. F#5 A5 When I come up empty-handed, the feeling almost overwhelms me. E5 B5 I let a few of my defenses fall C#5 F#5 and I smile a bitter smile -- it's not a pretty thing to see -- A5 B5 I think about a railroad platform back in 1983 E5 A5 E5 A5 B5 A5 E5 and I remember the train headed south out of Bangkok down toward toward the water
