                                   Black
                                 Pearl Jam

These are the chords that I play for Black. Most of the chords are just
variations of major chords. You gotta listen for the changes in the song
because otherwise you won't get the changes right. This is the intro part,
also used for the verses. You gotta also follow the strumming that he does.
I'm just going to write the chords that he is strumming on.

     E E

:----7------7------:--9-------9------:---7--12-----7--7---7----------
:----9------9--10--:--10------10--9--:---9---------7--7---9----------
:----7------7------:--9-------9------:---7---------7--7---7----------
:----9------9------:--9-------9------:---9---------7--7---9----------
:----7------7------:--X-------X------:---7---------X--X---7----------
:---(0)----(0)-----:--9-------9------:--(0)--------7--7--(0)---------

    A E E

:---5---9----5---5--7-:--7--12--7-----:--9-----9------:---7----------
:---5--------5---5--7-:--9------9--10-:--10----10--9--:---9----------
:---6--------6---6--7-:--7------7-----:--9-----9------:---7----------
:---7--------7---7--7-:--9------9-----:--9-----9------:---9----------
:---7--------7---7--X-:--7------7-----:--X-----X------:---7----------
:---5--------5---5--7-:-(0)----(0)----:--9-----9------:--(0)---------

Just play that for the verse. For the bridge there are only two chords.
The first chord is C, I like to play first position C. Then the second chord
is Emin, I also play first position Emin with F# on the first string.

    C C Emin

:-------:------:-------:---2---:----
:---1---:--1---:-------:-------:----
:-------:------:-------:-------:---- AND REPEAT UNTIL CHORUS
:---2---:--2---:---2---:---2---:---- /
:---3---:--3---:---2---:---2---:---- /
:---3---:--3---:-------:-------:---- /

This is the Chorus. And just repeats itself. It is very simple, only three
chords: Emin, D and C. I play these chords in first position also. Although,
during the second chorus as it goes on you might notice that there is a slight
variation. The only thing being done is that instead of going from C back up
to Emin he is going from C up to D, back down to C, then up to Emin.

    Emin D C

:--------:----2----:---------
:--------:----3----:----1----
:--------:----2----:---------
:----E---:---------:----2----
:----E---:----X----:----3----
:--------:----X----:----3----

Lyrics-- or what I think are the lyrics:

Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Her legs spread out before me
As her body lies still

All five horizons
Revolved around her soul, as the Earth to the Sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn

OOhhhh, and all I taught her was everything, that's all
OOhhhh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands, shake beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
All the pictures have been washed in black
Tattooed everything

I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So what can I say
And twisted thoughts that spin, round my head
I'm spinnin, I'm spinnin
How quick the sun can, drop away

And now my bitter hands
Grate on broken glass
Of what was everything
All my pictures have been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All my love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, All that I am
All that will be

I know some day you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a sun, in somebody elses sky oh why?
Can't it be, Can't it be mine...

We, we belong, we belong together, together,
We belong together...

The chords below are my own bastardizations, but for a solo routine,
they work quite well.  (Don't try to line up the phrases with the tab;
I just put them up there for a point of reference. Check the position
of the chords with the lyrics; then use the forms as shown in the tab)
