The Proclaimers - Throw the 'R' Away from their first album "This is the Story"
By Doom Drew

NOTE: I learned this purely by listening so I would appreciate any corrections that may
be appropriate.
Also there is one particular chord which I (using online chord identifier) identified as
Emaj7 sus4.
The chord looks like this... It is much simpler than the name suggests.
e|----------|
B|----------|
G|--2-------|
D|--1-------|
A|--2-------|
E|----------|

Capo 4

Intro E A E Emaj7 sus4 (x2)

E A
I've been so sad
      Am E
Since you said my accent was bad
E A Am E
He's wearin' a frown This Caledonian clown

    E A
I'm just going to have to learn to hesitate
   Am Am7 Emaj7 sus4 E
To make sure my words On your Saxon ears don't grate
    E A
But I wouldn't know a single word to say
     Am Am7 Emaj7 sus4 E
If I flattened all the vowels And threw the 'R' away

Some days I stand
On your green and pleasant land
How dare I show face
When my diction is such a disgrace

I'm just going to have to learn to hesitate
To make sure my words
On your Saxon ears don't grate
But I wouldn't know a single word to say
If I flattened all the vowels
And threw the 'R' away

E E7
You say that if I want to get ahead
A Am7
The language I use should be left for dead
E Emaj7 sus4 E
It doesn't please your ear
E E7
And though you tell it like a leg-pull
A Am7
It seems you're still full of John Bull
E Emaj7 sus4 E
You just refuse to hear

Oh what can I do
To be understood by you
Perhaps for some money
I could talk like a bee dripping honey.

I'm just going to have to learn to hesitate
To make sure my words
On your Saxon ears don't grate
But I wouldn't know a single word to say
If I flattened all the vowels
And threw the 'R' away

You say that if I want to get ahead
The language I use should be left for dead
It doesn't please your ear
And though you tell it like a leg-pull
I think you're still full of John Bull
You just refuse to hear

He's been so sad
Since you said his accent was bad
He's wearin' a frown
This Caledonian clown

I'm just going to have to learn to hesitate
To make sure my words
On your Saxon ears don't grate
But I wouldn't know a single word to say
If I flattened all the vowels
And threw the 'R' away
Flattened all the vowels
And threw the 'R' away
If I flattened all the vowels
And threw the 'R' away
