C G Am Am7
Walking on the road to Jerusalem
F G C
The time had come to sacrifice again
             G Am Am7
My two small sons, they walked beside me on the road
    F G C
The reason that they came was to watch the Lamb

       G Am Am7
Daddy, daddy what will we see there?
F G C
There's so much that we don't understand
                  G Am Am7
So I told them of Moses and Father Abraham
    F G C
And then I said, Dear children watch the lamb

Am Am7 F Am
For there will be so many in Jerusalem today
                    Am7 F G
We must be sure the Lamb doesn't run away
      C G Am Am7
And I told them of Moses and Father Abraham
F G C
Then I said, Dear children watch the Lamb

                    G Am Am7
When we reached the city I knew something must be wrong
F G C
There were no joyful worshippers no joyful worship songs
                      G Am Am7
I stood there with my children in the midst of angry men
           F Am
And then I heard the crowd cry out,
        G
Crucify him

Am Am7 F
We tried to reach the city, but we could not get away
Am Am7 F Am
Forced to play in this drama, a part I did not wish to play
                                        G
Why upon this day were men condemned to die?
Am Am7 G F
Why were we standing here where soon they would pass by?

C G Am Am7
I looked and said, even now they come
F G C
The first one cried for mercy, the people gave him none
                   G Am Am7
The second one was violent, he was arrogant and loud
            F G C
I still can hear his angry voice screaming at the crowd

Am Am7 F
Then someone said there's Jesus and I scarce believed my eyes
                      F Am
A man so badly beaten he barely looked alive

Blood poured from his body from the thorns upon his brow

running down the cross and falling to the ground

                    G Am Am7
I watched him as he struggled I watched him as he fell
F G C
The cross came down upon his back, the crowd began to yell
                           G Am Am7
In that moment I felt such agony, in that moment i felt such loss
F G C Am G
Until a Roman soldier grabbed my arm and screamed, You, carry his cross!

Am Am7 F
At first I tried to resist him then his hand reached for his sword
         Am Am7 F
And so I knelt and took the cross from the Lord
G C G
Placed it on my shoulder and started down the street
    Am Am7 F
The blood that he'd been shedding was running down my cheek

C G Am Am7
They led us to Golgotha they drove nails deep in his feet and hands
    F G C
And yet upon the cross I heard him pray, "Father forgive them"
C G Am Am7
Oh, never have I seen such love in any other eyes
         F G C
Into thy hands I commit my spirit he prayed and then he died

Am Am7 F
I stood for what seemed like years I'd lost all sense of time
Am F Am7
Until I felt two tiny hands holding tight to mine
C G
My children stood there weeping, I heard the oldest say
                         F G C
Father please forgive us the Lamb ran away

       G Am Am7
Daddy, daddy, what have we seen here?
F G C
There's so much that we don't understand
                     G Am Am7
So I took them in my arms and we turned and faced the cross
    F G C
And then I said, Dear children watch the Lamb
