I don’t believe there’s any bass during the intro, but if you find 
yourself itching to play during it, just turn the volume down and 
hammer out sixteenths on the second fret of the low D.

It’s the only thing in the song that you play independent of the other
guitars.

That riff is a bit tricky, but it's good practice. If it's too difficult
for you at this point, drop out the palm muting or nix the opens entirely,
whichever you prefer, and it'll still sound pretty good.
