• Song:

    Lean

    The National

The National's contribution to "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack.

In A Dorian.

I listened as well as I could, to the lyrics and especially to the chords. The chords
are very basic and the strumming pattern is dead easy. Basically, it's ||:
DOWN-up-down-DOWN-up-down-DOWN-up :||, or, ||: DOWN-up-down-DOWN-DOWN-up-down-DOWN :||.
It depends how long the chord lasts.

I'll probably be wrong about many of the lyrics. Feel free to correct me on them if I'm wrong.

INTRO:

Am, D, G, C, CMaj7

VERSE 1:

Am D G
Everybody needs a prayer and needs a friend,
                     C CMaj7 Am
everybody know's the world's about to end.
                   D G
Everybody wants to know what the end will be,
                   C CMaj7 Am
everybody wants to look before they lean. [or "leap." Not sure.]

Am D G
Everybody wants a sip of wine to drink,
                  C CMaj7 Am
everybody wants a little more time to think.
                  D G
Everybody needs a reason why they'd run,
                   C CMaj7 Am
everybody wants to know what they're runnin' from.

CHORUS:

Am D G
And I can see your fever's on the rise,
              C CMaj7 Am
I can see the waters in your eyes.
                  D G
And I can see the way the water leads,
                  C CMaj7 Am
love will lead us all to smithereens.

Am D G C CMaj7
Dying is easy, I believe my love, and my love relieves me.
Am D G C CMaj7
Dying is easy, I believe my love, and my love relieves me.

Em C

VERSE 2:

Am D G
Everybody takes forever to fall asleep,
                  C CMaj7 Am
everybody's got a lot they don't want to keep.
                  D G
Everybody needs a prayer and needs a friend,
                     C CMaj7 Am
everybody know's the world's about to end.
