HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELEN
~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
Things of Stone and Wood
This is the best I can do so far. The chords for the extended chorus at the
end are possibly wrong - If anyone finds something wrong, tell me - I
want to play it right too. As far as the 'solo'(if thats what you'd call it)
goes, don't hasle too much about the D note running through it. If you're
playing in a group, it won't be missed (in fact, I don't think TOSAW worry
about it much when they play it live anyway). Otherwise you can just get the
bass to play - probably best.
SINGLE PERFECT RAINDROP
~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
Things of Stone and Wood
Timing: 4/4
During singing, the G chord is played in an arpegio fashion,
during the viola part it's strummed. I'm not a great fan of
this song, so I haven't put too much work into transcribing it
- sorry if you do like it.
G
Well I wander round this mind amidst the
G
Ruins of a lonely child,
G
I used to think I talked with spirits
G
Now I think I talk with crooks,
G
And I wonder if I ever did
G
Anything good at all.
G
Ever.
G
So I lie awake at night and vow
G
I'm not going to think about.
C G
I've got self deception tattooed like a flag across my back,
C G
Holding hands with war-mongers I feel I've been betrayed,
C G
Though I dance in luxury without her I'll die of thirst,
C G
She's a single perfect raindrop,
C
When she falls she takes my breath away.
G
Well I advertise the scars of middle classness
G
Like a shiny piece of junkmail,
G
I've inherited the meanness
G
Like a dinnerset kept for family gatherings,
G
But she will scream and tell me all the
G
Magic in her magic life,
G
We will laugh at how I'm scared of
G
Everything that moves lest it crash
G
Into me or with me in it.
C G
I've got self deception tattooed like a flag across my back,
C G
Holding hands with war-mongers I feel I've been betrayed,
C G
Though I dance in luxury without her I'll die of thirst,
C G
She's a single perfect raindrop,
C
When she falls she takes my breath away.
C G
Ah ..... What a dissapointment this would all be
C
Ah ..... What a dissapointment.
C G
'Cause I've got self deception tattooed like a flag across my back,
C G
Holding hands with war-mongers I feel I've been betrayed,
C G
Though I dance in luxury without her I'll die of thirst,
C G
She's a single perfect raindrop,
C
When she falls she takes my breath away.

And I knew the dream will live on
[No chord - spoken]
This is my prayer
Am C G
Please forgive me my despair
Am C G
And set my raging spirit free
Am C G Am
And I will sing for you my prayer
Am C
You've laid me in her arms

Am C
By the look in her eyes
D
The dream will live on

G5 Csus9
Across this land everybody settled down
Am
To a night of fitful dreams
C
And strange apparitions
G5 Csus9
As we tossed and turned we saw ourselves exactly as we are
Am C
And not surprisingly we found it frightening
G5 Csus9 Am C
Hey!
G5
Well you don't choose the place or choose the time
Csus9
But history's a slippery slide
Am C
Be careful of those nasty drops down to the right
G5
When your hit it must seem a pretty good choice
Csus9
For they give all of our malice voice
Am C
What do we expect if we won't open our arms
G5(?) Csus9(?)
(Singin' Hey) We're all just earings to the left of our parents
Am C
They're all just haircuts to the left of theirs
G5
And we all wonder
Csus9
"Why do nazis grow like wildflowers!"
G5
(Hey!) Helen let's ditch the car let's hide
Csus9
We'll through seeds of doubt at passersby
Am
They will cross onto our side,
C
We'll sing our songs into the night
G5
As we cast off all those strange facades
Csus9
We'll see that we're all uniquely scarred
Am
By the same hand
C
Beneath the same smile
G5 Csus9
(Singin' Hey) We're all just earings to the left of our parents
Am C
They're all just haircuts to the left of theirs
G5
And we all wonder
Csus9
"Why do nazis grow like wildflowers!"
G5 Csus9
Everybody dreams the same visions in the end
Am C
I know, everybody feels trapped and tired
G5
So if you see a strange door to your right
C
Then drop your things and run for it
G5 Csus9
(Singin' Hey) We're all just earings to the left of our parents
Am C
They're all just haircuts to the left of theirs
G5
And we all wonder
Csus9
"Why do nazis grow like wildflowers!"
G5 Csus9 Am C
"Why do nazis grow like wildflowers!"

FRANKIE GRINS (AT HIS MILLIONTH SIN)
~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~ ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
Things of Stone and Wood
Timing: 4/4
G C
When he was young he walked with such gentle steps
G C
While leaving no trace he thought he was blessed
G C G G
He said, "I won't do any harm"
G C
His dreams they were filled with the forgiveness of spring
G C
He thanked the sky for any gift
G C
He said, "I won't do any harm here"
Am C
But he heard whispers as he walked past the fake gold lights
G C
"You must cheat to succeed there my naive child"
Am C
As he surrended he thought he did so too easily
G
Frankie cried at his very first lie
G C G C
G C
The lie it was simple and it's produce was great
G C
Guilt twisted it's fingers around his heart
G C G G
He said "I did not mean any harm"
G C
But soon ambition replaced all the love he had known
G C
The spring wasn't rebirth but prosperity now
G C
He said "I've not done many things wrong"
Am C
But he heard whispers as he walked past the fake gold lights
G C
"You must steal to stay here my angry young man"
Am C
He said "I shan't be robbed of my labour's toil"
G
And he did not feel at his hundredth evil
G C G C
G C
Now he hears condemnation in the winds as they creep
G C
In through the walls of this castle he's built
G C G G
He says "You can't touch me any more"
G C
But the cold and the hate they're just one in his bones
G C
The sweet dreams of the young make him angrier still
G C
He cautions "When you've done what I've done you will think what I think"
G G
Am C
But he hears whispers as he walked past the fake gold lights
G C
"You must kill to stay here my angry old man"
Am C
And he looks out with scorn at his colourless world
G C
Frankie grins at his millionth sin
G C
Frankie cried at his very first lie
G C
And he did not feel at his hundredth evil
G C C C G
Now Frankie grins at his millionth sin
