Whoever did the first tab on White Houses did a HORRIBLE job. They're all wrong. So
here I am to correct this great injustice!!

Just to avoid confusion: I put the chord right above the word (or, in some cases, the
syllable) that you're supposed to play them on. If a word or phrase is in parentheses,
that means that it's still being spoken in the previous chord, so don't change chords
until, well, the chord's above the word you'd be singing. And one other thing, I put a
space before each of the lyric lines. If the chord is written one space left of the
first word, that means you play it before you sing it. If the chord's directly on top,
then you'd hit the chord and sing at the same time.

So, here you are-- White Houses, by Vanessa Carlton.

    Verse 1:
C (hold for 1 measure, then proceed to play verse)

 C
Crashed on the floor when I moved in
This little bungalow with some strange new friends
        C/B
(Stay) up too late, and I'm too thin
We promise each other it's 'til the end
             Am
(Now we're) spinning empty bottles, it's the five of us
With pretty eyed-boys girls die to trust
     G
 (I) can't resist the day--no, I can't resist the day...

    Verse 2:
 C
Jenny screams out and it's no pose
'Cause when she dances she goes and goes
 C/B
Beer through the nose on an inside joke
 I'm so excited, I haven't spoken
       Am
(And) she's so pretty, and she's so sure
Maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her
 G
 Summer's all in bloom
 Summer's ending soon...

    CHORUS:

            F Am G
(It's al)right, and it's nice not to be so alone
F Am G F
But I hold on to your secrets in
C Am G C (hold for 1 measure, then proceed to verse 3)
 White hou-ses

    Verse 3:
C
Maybe I'm a little bit over my head
I come undone at the things he said
       C/B
(And) he's so funny in his bright red shirt
We were all in love, and we all got hurt
     Am
 (I) sneak into his car's cracked leather seat
The smell of gasoline in the summer heat,
              G
(Boy, we're) going way too fast
It's all too sweet to last...

    CHORUS 2:
            F Am G
(It's al)right, and I put myself in his hands
F Am G F
But I hold on to his secrets in
 C Am G
 White hou-ses
 F Am G
Love, or something ignites in my veins
F Am G F
And I pray it never fades, in
 C Am G
 White hou-ses

    Bridge:

F C Am G
My first time, hard to explain
F C Am G
Rush of blood, oh, and a little bit of pain
F C Am G
On a cloudy day, it's more common than you think
F C Am G C (hold for 1 measure, then proceed to instr.)
 He's my first mistake...

    Instrumental:
C C/B Am G
*the instrumental follows the same chords as the verses, though where the verses play
the chords for two measures, each chord in the intrumental is played for only 1 measure*

    Verse 4:
C
Maybe you were all faster than me
We gave each other up so easily
         C/B
(These) silly little wounds will never mend
I feel so far from where I've been...

    CHORUS 3:
           F Am G
(So I) go, and I will not be back here again
F Am G F
I'm gone as the day is fading, on
 C Am G
 White hou-ses
     F Am G
 (I) lied, wrote my injuries all the in dust
F Am G F
In my heart it's the five of us, in
 C Am G
 White hou-ses
       F Am G
(And) you, maybe you'll remember me
F Am G F
What I gave is yours to keep, in
 C Am G F F2
 White hou-ses, in
 C Am G F F2
 White hou-ses, in
 C Am G2 C
 White hou-ses...
