Islands In The Stream Bee Gees Based on the studio version from "Their Greatest Hits: The Record" NOTE: Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's 1983 hit was written by the Brothers Gibb. The Bee Gees released a live version on their 1998 CD "One Night Only" which kept the country-pop feel of the original duet. In 2001, the Bee Gees recorded a studio version for their compilation CD "Their Greatest Hits: The Record." The 2001 version has an R&B flavor, and includes lyrics they wrote for the chorus of Pras' 1998 "Ghetto Supastar," a reworking of the original Rogers/ Parton recording. That's the version I charted. Robin Gibb's vocal on the 2001 version has a lot of reverb on it, making some vocals indistinct or indecipherable. However, it sounds to me like he often replaces the 1980s "ah ha"s with "hearts." Listen closely and you can hear a sibilant "s" which changes "another, ah ha" to "another's heart." The addition of the Pras chorus, and the deletion of the "making love" lyrics lend support to the idea that in this version most of the "ah ha"s have been replaced. The 2001 version is in the Key of C. Barry Gibb sings it in B in the live version. I prefer playing it in A with a capo.
