You're No Good
Bob Dylan
from David Cushman, http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~dcushman/guitar.html

Intro: C F C A
       C F C C/B A
Well I don't know why I love you like I do
  D7 G C
Nobody in the world can get along with you.
                            F C C/B A
You got the ways of a devil sleeping in a lion's den
       D7 G C
I come home last night you wouldn't even let me in.
   E F
Oh sometimes you're as sweet as anybody want to be
G C N.C.
When you get a crazy notion, jumpin' all over me
         C F C C/B A
Well you give me the blues because you're satisfied
D7 G C
An' you give me the blues I wanna lay down and die.

I helped you when you had no shoes on your feet, pretty mama
I helped you when you had no food to eat.
You're the kind of woman I just don't understand
You're takin' all my money and give it to another man.
Well you're the kinda woman makes a man lose his brain
You're the kinda woman drives a man insane
You give me the blues because you're satisfied
You give me the blues I wanna lay down and die

Well you give me the blues, I wanna lay down and die

Talkin' New York

G C D
G C D G C/G G G

G C C/B
Rambling out of the wild west
D
Leaving the towns I love the best
G C
Thought I'd seen some ups and downs
        D D/F# G (G/E G/D)
'Till I come into New York town
C C/B
People going down to the ground
D D/F# G
Buildings going up to the sky.

G C C/B D D/F# G G/E G/D G

Wintertime in New York town
The wind blowing snow around
Walk around with nowhere to go
Somebody could freeze right to the bone
I froze right to the bone
New York Times said it was the coldest winter in seventeen years
I didn't feel so cold then.

I swung on to my old guitar
Grabbed hold of a subway car
And after a rocking, reeling, rolling ride
I landed up on the downtown side:
Greenwich Village.

I walked down there and ended up
In one of them coffee-houses on the block
Got on the stage to sing and play
Man there said: "Come back some other day
You sound like a hillbilly
We want folksingers here.

Well, I got a harmonica job begun to play
Blowing my lungs out for a dollar a day
I blowed inside out and upside down
The man there said he loved my sound
He was raving about he loved my sound
Dollar a day's worth.

After weeks and weeks of hanging around
I finally got a job in New York town
In a bigger place, bigger money too
Even joined the Union and paid my dues.

Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It don't take too long to find out
Just what he was talking about
A lot of people don't have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks and knives
And they gotta cut something.

So one morning when the sun was warm
I rambled out of New York town
Pulled my cap down over my eyes
And heated out for the western skies
So long New York
Howdy, East Orange.

You're mother says I'm a stranger,
my face you'll never see no more.
But there's on promise darlin',
I'll see you on God's golden shore.

Through this world I'm about to ramble
through ice and snow, sleet and rain
I'm about to ride that morning railroad
perhaps I'll die on that train

I'm going back to Colorado,
place that I started from.
If I'd know'd how bad you'd treat me,
honey I never would have come.

But just hang on with all you got,
Keep-a your hand on that plow, hold on,

And me, oh God, I'm a-one

My mother was a taylor
She sewed these new blue jeans
My sweetheart was a gambler, Lord
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

He fills his glasses up to the brim
And he'll pace the cards around
And the only pleasure he gets out of life
Is ramblin' from town to town

Oh tell my baby sister
Not to do as I have done
But to shun that house in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun

Well, it's one foot on the platform
And the other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

I'm a-goin' back to New Orleans
My race is almost run
I'm goin' back to end my life
Down in the Risin' Sun

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun
It's been the ruin of many poor girl
And me, oh God, Im a-one

Freight Train Blues
Bob Dylan
from David Cushman, http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~dcushman/guitar.html

C
I was born in Dixie in a boomer's shack

                            F C
Just a little shanty by the railroad track

Freight train whistle taught me how to cry

                              F C
Hummin' of the drivers was my lullaby

I got the freight train blues

                                              F G
Oh lordy, mama, I got 'em in the bottom of my ramblin shoes

             C
And when the whistle blows, I got to go

   F
Oh baby don't you know

         C G C
Well, it looks like I'm never gonna lose the freight train blues

Well, my daddy was a fireman and my old ma here.
she was the only daughter of the engineer
My sweetheart loved a brakeman and it ain't no joke
Shame the way she keeps a good man broke

I got the freight train blues
Oh lordy, mama, I got 'em in the bottom of my ramblin shoes
And when the whistle blows, I got to go
Oh mama don't you know
Well, it looks like I'm never gonna lose the freight train blues

Well, the only thing that makes me laugh again
Is the south bound whistle on a south bound train
Every place I want to go
I never can go because you know

I got the freight train blues
Oh lordy, mama, I got 'em in the bottom of my ramblin shoes

Song to Woody
Bob Dylan
from David Cushman, http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~dcushman/guitar.html

Capo 1
A E7 A
I'm out here a thousand miles from my home,
D A Bm A
Walkin' a road other men have gone down.
A D A
I'm seein' your world of people and things,
A E7 A
Your paupers and peasants and princes and kings.

Hey, hey Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song
'Bout a funny ol' world that's a-comin' along.
Seems sick an' it's hungry, it's tired an' it's torn,
It looks like it's a-dyin' an' it's hardly been born.

Hey, Woody Guthrie, but I know that you know
All the things that I'm a-sayin' an' a-many times more.
I'm a-singin' you the song, but I can't sing enough,
'Cause there's not many men that done the things that you've done.

Here's to Cisco an' Sonny an' Leadbelly too,
An' to all the good people that traveled with you.
Here's to the hearts and the hands of the men
That come with the dust and are gone with the wind.

I'm a-leaving' tomorrow, but I could leave today,
Somewhere down the road someday.
The very last thing that I'd want to do
Is to say I've been hittin' some hard travelin' too.

D--------------
then you hit strongly the D string at the 4th fret two times.

And there's two white horses followin' me
And there's two white horses followin' me
I got two white horses followin' me
Waitin' on my buryin' ground

Did you ever hear that coughin' sound
Did you ever hear that coughin' sound
Did you ever hear that coughin' sound
Means another poor boy is underground

Did you ever hear them church bells tone
Have you ever heared them church bells tone
Did you ever hear them church bells tone
Means another poor boy is dead and gone.

Well, my heart stopped beatin'; my hands turned cold

And my heart stopped beatin' and my hands turned cold

Well, my heart stopped beatin' and my hands turned cold

Now I believe what the Bible told

There's just one last favor I'll ask of you

And there's just one last favor I'll ask of you

There's just one last favor I'll ask of you

See that my gravce is kept clean

Original verses:
2. It's a long lane ain't got no end
It's a long lane ain't got no end
It's a long lane ain't got no end
It's so bad it is a miserable shame

3. Have you ever heard a coughin' sound
Have you ever heard a coughin' sound
Have you ever heard a coughin' sound
Then you know the poor boy's in the ground

4. Oh, dig my grave with a silver spade
Oh, dig my grave with a silver spade
Oh, dig my grave with a silver spade
You may place four diamonds on my grave

5. Have you ever heard a death bell toll
Have you ever heard a death bell toll
Have you ever heard a death bell toll
Then you know the poor boy's dead and gone
