Hi there! This is my first tab on ultimate guitar,
so I hope it's right and it can be enjoyed.

Just a couple observations: I know this song was written by David Forman,
I personally don't like it and I've hearing the Up, Close and Alone version
my whole life. I think Burton Cummings did a great work with his cover,
that`s why I'm placing this song here and so the lyrics of that version.

(it's always with the same chords, there is a change in the chorus but
 it`s in the timing)

Intro: D# A# G# Cm

1)
             D# A#
When I was a boy I dreamed of Phillip Marlowe
                  G# Cm
He took me as his partner took me as his friend
              D# A#
Gave me his fedora gave me shotgun fever
               G# Cm
Took me as his partner to the end

1)

When I was a boy I dreamed I was a jeweler
With a family business that was free and clear
Selling golden earrings to Mrs. Mickey Mantle
Trying to be gentle while I stuck it in her ear

2) Chorus (these are the same, just start a bit earlier)

       D# A#
The dream of a child, the song of a man
    G# Cm
The key and the time are at his command
      D# A#
The dream of a child the song of a man
    G# Cm
The key and the time are at his command

1)

When I was a boy, I dreamed I saved my sister
From the Rosicrucian's for the love of God
I threw myself among them butchering their leaders
If anyone could expected in the name of God

2)

The dream of a child the song of a man
The key and the time are at this command, if he knows it
The dream of a child the song of a man
The key and the time are at his command

1)

When I was a boy, I dreamed that Elvis Presley
Was standing on the corner kissing Brenda Lee
Mama always told me love was made in heaven
Tell me how my best friend could steal my love from me

        A# Cm
I love Brenda Lee, Brenda Lee loves me

Thanks to Metrolyrics for the lyrics, and thanks to Burton Cummings
