• Song:

The Curse Of Perfect Days Acoustic

  • Artist:

    Emery

This song is played half step higher from standard tuning. I believe they tune
their guitars up, but I
just use a capo on the firs fret and works just the same. So the tuning I end up
using is Drop D with
capo on 1st fret, so all of these chords are up a half step...

Chords used (capo = open string) for intro:

B5 (or G5 ) E5 G5 There is also another chord sometimes used in the song, its some form
e----------- | ---- | --- | of D without the rd (so idk if it is a Dm or Dmaj), so I just call it a D,
b----------- | ---- | --- | but I play just the bass notes open (DAD)
g----------- | ---- | --- |
d-7--------- | -2-- | -3- |
a-8--------- | -2-- | -3- |
d-7--------- | -2-- | -3- |

All, or most, chords can be played regularly, except that you have to accommodate
for the dropped d. Also, if you want to you can play most of the other strings
open.

*Verse/Intro*

              B5 E5 G5
And you knew exactly when
B5 E5 G5 E5
you gave your heart and all of it
B5 E5 G5
Without a thought of what you meant
B5 E5 G5 E5
you knew you couldn't live without this

     E5 G5 B5
So make your excuses now
      E5 G5 B5 G5
that time has stolen all that you've earned
E5 G5 B5
Make your excuses now
      E5 G5 B5
that time has stolen her
E5 G5 A5
time has stolen her

*Verse*

(There is another guitar playing the melody, but I usually play it on the d
string. it is mostly just switching between the noes E and D)

D5 (open) E5 D5 E5 (quickly switch between open fret and 2nd fret)
E5 C5 A5
Tell me that I'm a fool That I've exaggerated the situation
E5 C5 A5
'Cause I've never been scared like this Of losing more than I have to give

*Pre-Chorus*

For this part I will use a small tab to show you how I play it. Im sure that this
is meant for two guitars, but I will just show you how I play it. You can let all
strings ring if you want to.
(x2 as in play that part twice before moving on)
e-------------------x2--------------------x2
b-------------------x2--------------------x2
g-------------------x2--------------------x2
d-2-2-2-0-0-0-0-0--x2--1-1-1-5-5-5-5-5----x2
a-2-2-2-------------x2---1-1-1-3-3-3-3-3--x2
d-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2--x2---1-1-1-------------x2 play twice whole thing twice

It's so unfair I believed I could handle this
I swore I could fix everything

C5
But I told myself lies all of these years

(quickly) D5 (open) E5 D5 E5 STOP
                                           I told myself lies
(same again) D5 E5 D5 E5 STOP
                                        All of these years

DEmDEm(keep playing E5 )
The fear that moves in and stays here
DEmDEm
The words that replay in your ears
DEmDEm
The grip that you held has weakened
DEmDEm
Was the life that was yours forsaken
    C5
But I can't take my eyes off of you

*Chorus*

 STOP G5
And we were still so cool
                                    E5
Our bodies smooth and young (bodies smooth and young)
                                   C5
The dreams of getting older

Were never supposed to come (were never supposed to come)
                                 G5
The curse of perfect days
                                           E5
You forget just what you've made (forget just what you've made)
                                        C5
And you find yourself just praying

For something more than this life
                                        Em (slide up to) G

*Verse*

E5 D5
We wait for the doctors, to prescribe their medicines
E5 D5
And hold their bad news, as if later it will make more sense
E5
But I've never been scared like this (It's so unfair)
          D5
Just waiting for my strength to give (I thought I could handle this)
E5 B5
But this is the rock, I broke myself against (I swore I could fix anything)

          C5 E5
We believed we'd have our way (And we did, and we did)
      C5 G5 Fmaj11
The memories we have made (Everyday was the best day of my life)
          C5 E5
I could never repay what I owe (I'll replace, I'll reload)
C5 A5 G5
Even though I read the ending before the start
Fmaj11
I would have never changed a single part

*This part is palm muted and played with only the bass notes*

G5 A5 E5
Tell me I'm a fool, tell me I'm just scared
                      C5
Say I'm such a drama queen, it's not even fair
G5 A5 E5
Let me see your eyes, the love that's right behind
                    C5
And I'll promise you
                           G5 A5
That it will never die
                   E5 C5 STOP
It will never die

*Chorus*

(first half is slowed down significantly)

                               C5
And we were still so cool
                                    E5
Our bodies smooth and young (bodies smooth and young)
                                   C5
The dreams of getting older

Were never supposed to come (were never supposed to come)

(pick up pace again here)

Stop G5
The curse of perfect days
                                           E5
