"The Gambler"

NOTE: I figured this out with a piano, not a guitar.
It should not make any difference, but I do not know if there is an easier way to play
it with a capo.
Those are the chords in standard tuning, if you want to play with a capo, you will have
to transpose it by yourself.

The notes connected with a dash are triplets, the others are played within normal beats.

The notes in the bass line are optional, but they do create a scale downwards from Bb to
F, which is a nice effect

That should be all you need to know about the song, now play!

Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
Slow down, we've got time left to be lazy
        Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
All the kids have bloomed from babies into flowers in our eyes
          Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
We've got fifty good years left to spend out in the garden
        Eb Dm Cm F
I don't care to beg your pardon, we should live until we
Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F Bb Dm/A Bb
die

        Bb Dm/A Gm Dm-Eb-F
We were barely eighteen when we crossed collective hearts
       Eb Dm Cm F
It was cold, but it got warm when you barely crossed my eye
             Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
And then you turned, put out your hand, and you asked me to dance
       Eb Dm Cm F
I knew nothing of romance, but it was love at second sight

  Eb F Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F
I swear when I grow up I won't just buy you a rose
       Eb F Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F
I will buy the flower shop, and you will never be lonely
    Eb F
For even if the sun stops waking up over the fields
           Bb Dm/A Gm
I will not leave, I will not leave 'til it's our time
        Eb F
So just take my hand, you know that I will never leave your

side

           Bb Dm/A Gm Dm-Eb-F
It was the winter of '86, all the fields had frozen over
      Eb Dm Cm F
So we moved to Arizona to save our only son
             Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
And now he's turned into a man, though he thinks just like his mother
     Eb Dm Cm F
He believes we're all just lovers, he sees hope in everyone

         Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
And even though she moved away, we always get calls from our daughter
        Eb Dm Cm F
She has eyes just like her father's, they are blue when skies are gray
              Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F Eb F
And just like him she never stops, never takes the day for granted
          Eb Dm Cm F
Works for everything that's handed to her, never once complains

Eb F Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F
You think that I nearly lost you
         Eb F Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F
when the doctors tried to take you away
         Eb F Bb Dm/A Gm Bb/F
Like the night you took my hand beside the fire
       Eb F Bb
thirty years ago to this day,
Eb F
You swore you'd be here 'til we decide that it's our time
             Bb Dm/A Gm
But it's not time, you never quit in all your life
        Eb F Bb Dm/A Gm
So just take my hand, you know that I will never leave your side
           Eb F
You're the love of my life, you know that I will never leave your side

So we move out to the garden, look at everything we've grown
