You start on an Am for two beats then move the finger that's on the second fret of the D
string up to the second fret of the A string for two beats (Amadd9). Then A regular C
for two beats, then pull off on the D string for two beats (Csus2). I also like to pull
off on the B string in the middle of playing the Fs in the verses.

Am Am9 C C9 F
I grew up in a town with one red light
Am Am9 C C9 F
How that train would rattle me in the middle of the night
    Am Am9 C C9 F
But I slept like a baby in that bed
F G Am Am9 C C9 F
Cause mama kept me warm and she kept me fed

Am Am9 C C9 F
July 3rd was a dreaded friend of mine
     Am Am9 C C9 F
We'd all go down to the family plot in the Louisiana pines
Am Am9 C C9 F
Staring at that little baby's grave
F G Am Am9 C C9 F
Stella was as young as she was brave

             F C
And what I'd give to go there again
                G Am
Kiss my daddy's face, hold my mama's hand
             F C
Little did I know soon they would be
                   G Am Am9 C C9 F
Lying right beside her, gone away from me
               Am Am9 C C9 F
Gone away from me

     Am Am9 C C9 F
They always made us kneel by grandpa's grave
Am Am9 C C9 F
Mama was a-wailing asking God if he was saved
  Am Am9 C C9 F
I never liked to see my daddy cry
F G Am Am9 C C9 F
I guess I'll never know how grandpa died

             F C
And what I'd give to go there again
                G Am
Kiss my daddy's face, hold my mama's hand
             F C
Little did I know soon they would be
                   G Am Am9 C C9 F
Lying right beside her, gone away from me
               Am Am9 C C9 F
Gone away from me

    Am Am9 C C9 F
You barely even see the tombstones now
    Am Am9 C C9 F
The trees are grown up everywhere and no one keeps the grounds
Am Am9 C C9 F
Strangers live inside my childhood home
F G Am Am9 C C9 F
And I can't believe that daddy's really gone

             F C
And what I'd give to go there again
                  G Am
Kiss his withered face, hold her gentle hand
                   F C
But there ain't no way that will ever be
                      G
They lie beneath that old tree,
                Am Am9 C C9 F
Gone away from me (Gone away from me)
                Am Am9 C C9 F
Gone away from me
                Am Am9 C C9 F
Gone away from me (Gone away from me)

     Am Am9 C C9 F
Well I grew up in a town with one red light
