The G refers to a single note but also works as a chord if you're fast enough.
C - Csus2 - C in the chorus imitates the vocal part - accent the high E on the first
for this effect. Csus2 just means add the 3rd fret on the B anyway. Am - Am7 does the same
simply remove your finger from the G string.
