This is the opening riff. i Think John finger-picks it
on the record, and that's what i prefer, it can be done
with a pick, but i like the warmer sound of fingertips
better myself.

intro + 1st verse:
e------------------------------------------------------------------- b-------------------3---------------3-------------------------------|
g-------------------0h2-------------0----------------------0-------- d----------------------------------------------4---5-----4----------|
a--------------------------------------0-------5-------5------------|
e--------3----------------------------------------------------------|

Here he does this funky little thing where he just hammers his finger on to the 3rd fret on the
a-string without plucking it whitch makes this riff sound nasty sometimes i like to slap the
d-string with my thum (i think he did this on the record)- this makes it sound even cooler

John basically does the same intro riff but strums them more like chords when you see
x's all across the strings, just slam your palm down over all of them
makind a slapping sound and muting all the strings temporarily. i think this
really helps to create the feel for this song. This is basically the equivalent
of the opening riff except it sounds more like chords you'll notice that you
can almst use the exact same fingring for the opening riff and this one.

So what if i've got a smile on
it's hidin' the quiet superstition in my head

g c d c g c d em d d
Don't believe me don't believe me when i say i've got it down

at the part where John goes "make it feel like home, but all i feel is alone" just
mess arong on a c chord and find a rythim that fits and blends in
